- The most media-exposed CEOs come from Slovenia and Serbia, with only one Croatian company among the top 10.
- We found no strong correlation between a CEO’s media exposure and the company’s revenue size. For instance, Podravka ranks 40th in revenue in Croatia, yet its CEO Martina Dalić has a nearly 9 in the regional CEO Index. In Slovenia, Belektron ranks fourth in revenue, but its CEO, Boštjan Bandelj, has an Index of 0.42 (meaning he appears substantially less often than the average regional CEO).
- Among the top 10 most media-exposed CEOs in the region, only two lead publicly listed companies.
- State-owned companies dominate the list of top media-exposed CEOs, which is often (but not always — there are positive exceptions) connected to high-profile leadership changes and scandals.
The assumption that the CEOs of the largest firms — those contributing most to tax revenue, employing many people, and significantly shaping the market — would be the most media-visible turned out to be incorrect. Bloomberg Adria explores why that is in more depth in this article.
In our analysis, we also examined:
- how many CEOs have a Regional CEO Index greater than 1 (you’ll be surprised how few do),
- which industries the most media-exposed CEOs come from (while energy leads, there’s a big surprise about which sector is second),
- how certain strong industrial players from Slovenia cracked into the TOP 10 of the Industry CEO Index.
